To begin with I am the father of a 16 year old and a 12 year old. I think they are physicaly attached to their smart phones. I am also an Independent Insurance Agent who offers car insurance in Manning, SC, Sumter, SC and the remainder of the state. So I know the dangers of texting and driving. I've seen the statistics. One of the reasons for the increase in auto insurance rates is accidents resulting from distracted driving. Simply put, insurance companies like Travelers, Safeco and Nationwide are paying for more accidents from distracted drivers, especially teenagers. I have tried several different apps that supposedly monitor my child while he's behind the wheel but I have yet to find one that works to my satisfaction. If you know of any please let me know. The one thing I can do is hound my son until I'm blue in the face about the dangers of even looking at his phone until he arrives at his destination. In the event the unthinking happens and he is in accident I would rather have known I did everything in my power to prevent it than worry about havning been a nagging parent.
